la rue Mouffetard - quartier Latin

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

It's unbelievable, but it's snowing as I write this post.....

From my living room window.....

Every week, I meet my conversation partners. What is a conversation partner you may ask? It’s someone with whom you speak a language you’re learning. So, my partners are French people who are learning English. When we meet, we speak in English for 45 minutes and then in French for 45 minutes. It’s a great way to practice speaking a foreign language and usually you become friends!

Yesterday, after meeting with one of my conversation partners, who I meet in a cafe across from the Luxembourg Garden, I decided, as usual, to walk home, but to take a different route. So when I turned the corner, I was amazed to see the Pantheon. I had no idea it was so close to the café where I’ve been meeting my conversation partner for over 2 months now. I think this may be because I use an app, Citimapper (highly recommend), to navigate the city and only know the route it gives me and not what surrounds it. So when I have the time, I wander from the prescribed route and that's by far the best way to explore Paris.

The Pantheon, modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, is the burial site of Voltaire, Rousseau and Victor Hugo, among others.

Close to the Pantheon is the Rue Mouffetard, one of the oldest and liveliest neighborhoods in Paris. These days, its full of restaurants, bars, boutiques, shops and cafes, as well as a regular open air market. It’s where my son Patrick and his friends frequently meet to eat and, more particularly, drink in its trendy restaurants and bars. Friday afternoon, everyone was there!

Daffodils!

I know these as beggar's purses, but the patisserie called them something else and, of course, I don't remember what!
