Fête des Tuileries (Tuileries Fun Fair)

Updated: Feb 16, 2020

Tuileries Fun Fair....every summer for the past 20 years

Today I went for a walk in the Tuileries, the beautiful gardens between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde. The last time I was there, set up of the annual Tuileries Fun Fair was just beginning and I was curious to see it again. About 16 or 17 years ago (cannot remember exactly when it was), our family was in Paris around this time. It was the boys’ first visit to France. Michael was around 8, Patrick around 11. We were staying at the Hotel du Louvre, which is literally across the street from the museum and the Tuileries. We were in Paris because the Greenwich Choral Society (of which I was a member) was presenting concerts in Paris and Chartres Cathedral. As I would be spending my days in rehearsal, my husband had plans to keep the boys occupied with such things as a visit to the Eiffel Tower, boat ride on the Seine, etc. But this was not to be.

La fête and the Louvre

The first day we thought we’d take it easy and stroll through the Tuileries since it was just across the street. We didn’t know about the fun fair. But when Michael and Patrick saw the ferris wheel and particularly all the games of chance, they jumped for joy and announced that this was where they wanted to be. So except for grudgingly attending my concerts at Notre Dame and la Madeleine, their few days in Paris were spent at the fun fair!

As I recall, the "Flume" was big hit with the boys

What the gorilla has to do with anything, je ne sais pas!

Games of chance.....Michael ALWAYS wins at least 1 stuffed animal...still

Comme ça....like this!

Hausmann et Chez Jean-Luc...

Michael and Patrick then.....
